Orthotics and arch supports are regularly recommended by physiotherapists, podiatrists and orthotists for the relief of foot pain, heel pain, shin pain, knee pain and back pain. Often, a biomechanical mal-alignment or lack of stability from the foot region can cause abnormal loads on the tissues of the foot and heel, shin, knee or back pain can develop as a result.
Fitting orthotics to ordinary shoes, can negatively affect the balance of the shoe, and also make it difficult to achieve a good fit, as the extra depth of the insole in the shoe lifts the foot slightly out of the shoe. The Sandpiper design, incorporates one or sometimes two removable insoles, so that the extra depth of an orthotic can be compensated by removing the insole in the shoe, and ensure a snug fit against the foot, and maintain the balance of the shoe.

Corns and calluses are areas of hard, thickened skin that develop when the skin is exposed to excessive pressure or friction. They commonly occur on the feet and can cause pain and discomfort when you walk.
A bunion is a bony deformity of the joint at the base of the big toe. The medical name is hallux valgus. The main sign of a bunion is the big toe pointing towards the other toes on the same foot, which may force the foot bone attached to it (the first metatarsal) to stick outwards.
Keep your feet clean by washing them every day in warm soapy water, but don’t soak them for too long, as this may destroy the natural oil of your skin. After washing, dry your feet thoroughly, especially between the toes. Apply moisturising cream all over the foot, except for between the toes and use a pumice stone or foot file to gently remove hard skin and calluses.

We expect a lot from our feet, and they provide us with the means to enjoy life to the full, yet we rarely give them the attention and care they need or deserve. In fact, our feet are likely to carry us the equivalent of 5 times around the earth in an average lifetime, and we spend nearly 100% of our waking lives wearing footwear, and even so, we often find ourselves wearing poorly fitted, unsuitable, or uncomfortable footwear.
That is why at Sandpiper, we are obsessive in providing top quality care for feet. We can express our mission in just 5 simple words: Happy Customers with Comfortable Feet
This guide is provided to show you what to look for when selecting footwear, how to keep your feet healthy, and how to enjoy life to the full, simply by understanding what footwear your feet need.
